David Kanaga is a composer and game designer based in Berkeley, California. His game scores include award-winning soundtracks to Proteus, Dyad, and Panoramical. His directorial debut Oikospiel Book I was awarded the Nuovo Award at the Independent Games Festival and the Indiecade Grand Jury Prize in 2017. His work has been featured in shows at MoMA, SFMoMA, the Museum of Moving Image, and covered in publications including The Guardian, The Wire, and PC Gamer. His first live opera, Heat Cantata from Oikospiel Book II, premiered at the Holland Festival in 2018. As a theorist, his article "Ecooperatic Music Game Theory" was featured in the Oxford Handbook of Algorithmic Music, and he recently presented his research “Das Kaliforniagold: Wagner’s Ghost Railroad and The RegieDAW” at Stanford University’s CCRMA. In 2020, he released an EDM arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. He has released albums through Daniel Lopatin’s Software Recording Co., Orange Milk Records, Noumenal Loom, along with many digital releases on Epic MegaGames’ Bandcamp.
